Just returned last night from a busy trip hosting the Align 4 Conference in Atlanta. One thing I noticed as I sit in my chair back at home: I like returning back to base. It's the whole rhythm thing Bruce Miller talks about (check out the post on #TheNines about this topic).
God knows all about rhythm. You see it everywhere. The grass grows, we cut it. We trim our fingernails, they grow again. The sun rises, the sun sets. It gets cooler in Winter then warmer in Summer. God build circadian rhythm into our existence. We need to return back to base so we can rest after working hard.
What is base to you?
Back to base would be my couch with some hot chocolate and my wife. Chatting about why we are so busy and how we can fix it!!

What if my base is where I work hard? My office is my base but I prefer it being at home with my wife or curled up on my recliner reading a good book or in my ManCave doing a jigsaw puzzle. i would say my bicycle but some might see that as work. :)

The right side of my couch with a cup of coffee and April sitting next to me.

Yesssss. Well-defined. Good for you.
As for the "busy and how we can fix it", may I offer a perspective? Try 2 things: First, stop doing what is obviously unnecessary. Second, instead of fixing it, learn to dance with it.

Bill - I prefer to see base as the place where rest is invested in (ManCave, recliners, reading...) and the job that we love so much is "out there". Returning to base doesn't mean we don't like being out there. It just conveys a respect for the circadian rhythm God built into the universe.

Hmmm, second comment involving a couch, a drink, and a spouse. Is there a trend here???

I don't drink coffee and don't like to watch much TV (besides cooking shows are not my cup of...Diet Dr. Pepper). But I do like my wife! So...how can I join this party? :)

I get your point Scott. That would have to be at home then doing what I said or on the bike where I find escape and relaxation.

I suppose a Diet Dr. Pepper, couch and wife make you eligible for the "club" :)

I have come to the conclusion that the more stressful "out there" is, the more deeply "back to base" is needed.
