He's a fisherman. Fishing is his craft. He also takes the time to mend his nets...
and the mother packs her son a lunch for the day;
and the son goes to hear what all the buzz is about;
and the Miracle Worker blesses the small meal to feed a crowd of thousands;
and the companions gather 12 baskets of leftovers;
...because mending his nets is an investment. Without a good net, fish get away. Miracles lay wasted.

Scott: not sure if i am understanding this correctly so if not please say so and I will try again. My favorite net-mending activity is cycling. I cannot even begin to say how many times I have gone for a ride of 20-30 miles or more and come back with a whole different perspective. The stress pounding my head and heart is relieved and I have a renewed mind. The endorphin rush gives me a renewed body. But that alone has renewed my spirit as well. During the winter when I can't get out to ride I really like doing jigsaw puzzles. I put on a movie and get lost in another world, finding that I have whittled away sometimes 2-3 hours of mind-forgetting but mind-refreshing activity. Both these activities are net menders to me.

That's exactly what we are talking about. Cycling, puzzles, movies - there are all excellent ways to mend the nets. The different perspective is what keeps you sharp. Good to know you have such a well-defined set of net-mending activities. Not everyone does. Thanks for sharing.

I like to read...a lot...It keeps me fresh and excited...
Lately, I've started writing a lot more. Stuff that's not on my blog. I've gotten into poetry and I think it really clears my head...

I had to think about this, because I honestly haven't had a good "mending nets" time in a while. But, I think messing with my guitar, writing a hit that will never get published, would be the most rewarding change of perspective I've enjoyed... where's that guitar?

Good for you. Reading and writing is a great way to mend the nets. I'm glad you contributed.

find the guitar, man. you never know when, while mending your nets, you become a one-hit wonder!

I'm with Herb (other than I play piano, not guitar). I get recharged in worship and prayer. It's amazing the difference I see when I have dedicated more time to this mending. Thanks Scott.

Jason - you just reminded me of days gone by when I'd just sit and play the piano with no particular song... just chord progressions. I'd sit and worship God in those times. I'd forgotten about that. Gonna have to start it up again... after I tune the piano of course!
The difference IS amazing, isn't it?

i seem to remember that one of Keith Green's most memorable song (O Lord, You're Beautiful) was done by him sitting down at his piano and just worshiping as he played. I am not musically inclined/talented/gifted but sometimes wish i could do just that. Go for it guys!!

For me - mending the nets is Hunting and Fishing. Just sitting out in Nature and Experiencing God in that way and being renewed in Him.
