They stepped out into the cool, night air. Headed toward the park and strode down the pathway lined with night lights. They talked about the events of the day. Nothing terribly profound. Just moments of triumph, moments of embarrassment.
And they walked a while in silence.
The silence was broken by a comment about how a discussion at the water cooler earlier that day got them all fired up about a current news story. Then they belly laughed at a silly joke one of them had remembered.
And they walked a while in silence.
They discussed an emotional situation they were facing; still facing after so many years. One of them burst into an angry rant about how unfair life is. There were tears shed.
Then they walked some more in silence.
After rounding the corner, they entered a small coffee shop and ordered two tall decaf coffees (with room). Sitting at a small, round table by the window they sipped their drinks slowly. Time passed gently as they simply enjoyed being together, watching people walk by outside. Diana Krall sang a sweet, smooth jazz melody through the weathered speakers in the corners of the room.
And they sat a while in silence.
After a short time, they got up, headed outside, and turned back toward home, strolling again down the pathway lined with night lights. And they walked some more in silence...
...simply being together.
IS THIS A METAPHOR that describes your walk with God - simply forgiven, simply accepted?
...or are you still trying to earn this kind of relationship through your works?
...you do know He died for this kind of relationship, don't you?
