In Jeremiah chapter 24 verse 7 we read the following:
"I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart."
"Return to me with all their heart." This phrase implies a separation prior; a lacking of something vital to relationship. "Return" - the dictionary defines this as to go or come back, as to a former place, position, or state.
Spending time online isn't always a bad thing. But it can distract us from the vital relationship on which we are so dependent if we want to finish strong in mission work.
Therefore I am issuing a challenge to all my Facebook and Twitter friends. I challenge you to take a 24 hour sabbatical from all social network media every 7 days (symbolized by the passage in Jeremiah 24.7). Pick one 24 hour block of time every 7-day period to be completely separate from all social media interaction. In its place, spend time returning to God in prayer, listening, meditation -- in other words, return to God.
Try it for a 30-day trial period. That's what I'm gonna do - beginning Monday February 15 through March 15.
Think you're up to it? Think it's a silly idea? Let me know by your comments if you're in with me or if you're gonna think about it...
