January 25, 2010 from the Associated Press:
"A Picasso painting damaged when a woman lost her balance and fell on the canvas last week will be repaired in time for an exhibition of the artist’s works in April, the Metropolitan Museum of Art said Monday..."
The article points out that the museum director has requested a review of the policies and procedures after the painting suffered a 6-inch tear to its lower right-hand corner. It is reported that,
"The accident occurred in a second-floor gallery of early Picasso works when a patron participating in one of the museum’s art classes lost her balance and fell on the canvas, the museum said. She was one of 14 people in the guided group."
LOSING YOUR BALANCE
You and I are vulnerable to losing our balance. It's not a physical balance, per se. But it can damage our life nonetheless. For example,
You get up early, stay late at the office, go to evening meetings for 7 days straight. Then you get pneumonia.... or...
You respond to every church member's need for visitation over a 2 year period and come home to a note on the counter from your spouse saying they have left you.
Balance is key. It is defined differently for different people. But we simply cannot serve in the people-helping business without it.
Question For You:
What have you seen others go through as a result of having no balance?
