Having a fantastic day in ministry service means walking with God. Fantastic doesn't always mean everything goes our way and is easy. In fact, some the most fantastic days I've every had have been through a struggle. After all, isn't that what James wrote about?
Here, then, are 3 steps to having your fantastic day:
STEP ONE: Start the day in prayer. Actually, by prayer I mean listening only. Turn off your tendency to pray for others or yourself. Just sit quietly in a comfortable chair (not too comfortable). Breathe deeply and slowly a few times. Close your eyes. Think of one thought such as "love". Allow God to simply speak into your life. If a distracting thought pops into your mind, slowly allow it to leave your mind again. You want to strive for 100% listening.
STEP TWO: Pray throughout the day. My friend on Twitter, www.twitter.com/brandonacox, pointed me to this link by Greg Qualls entitled, "6 Tips For Talking To God". Tip #1 highlighted setting up prayer "triggers". Here's an excerpt:
"Take things that you do every day and make them triggers for you to pray. Here are some ideas to help you get started: taking a shower, using the bathroom, getting in your car, making coffee, getting in bed, getting ready to read your Bible, finishing reading your Bible, driving to work, driving home, finishing lunch, eating eggs, sailing on a boat, scratching your nose, and buying a tambourine. You get the idea. Take things that you do every day and use them as a trigger to pray."
STEP THREE: End the day in prayer. Again, close your eyes. Breathe a few, slow breaths. Sit comfortably in a chair. Allow the events of the day to pass by you like a slide show as you listen to God speak into your life again. Strive again for 100% listening.
I try to do this every day. Some days I'm successful. Other days I'm not. I'm finding when I get serious about staying connected to God, the enemy doesn't like it and tries everything in his power to distract me. But stick with it. Your best days are ahead!
Question:
What triggers keep you in prayer all day?
