One of our family's favorite traditions at Christmas time is to watch A Christmas Story. It's a tale of a little boy named Ralphie on one particular Christmas when all he wanted was a Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle - only to be told by the adults, "You'll shoot your eye out, kid."
There is one particular scene when Ralphie waits in line forever at a department store followed by a long climb up a steep set of stairs. Finally reaching the top, he is hoisted by an elf onto Santa's lap. "And what do YOU want, little booooyyyy?", said Santa in a deep, low voice.
Ralphie froze. He was blowing it, blowing it! All that time in line he knew exactly what he wanted from Santa. Now he was nose to nose with the Big Kahuna and he couldn't think straight...
Face to face with The Big Guy. Ever been there with God? Ever wait and wait and wait, climb a steep set of circumstances and find yourself so incredibly close to God Himself ---- then go speechless? We all have things we want from God. But there are moments when God seems so near and so big, all our prayer requests seem to give way to insignificance. Then God seems sufficient all by Himself. God, himself, is all we need.
May that be your experience this Christmas. I pray your waiting ends. I pray your climbing ceases and you sit upon the lap of The Big Kahuna and just be WITH Him; be in awe OF Him.
He's all you need to Serve Strong.
Merry Christmas!
