I gave blood for the first time a couple weeks ago. After the needle was removed from my arm, I was escorted to the"refreshment area", an area set up with donuts, juice boxes and cookies. I thoroughly enjoyed that time. I am a sweets junkie.
You know why they have a "refreshment area"? Because you just gave up a part of your body that helps you navigate the stresses and strains on your energy. You need a boost to help you until your body replenishes itself. You need a season of refreshment.
As you minister to the needs of others, you are giving of yourself. Most times this requires you to replenish the energy you gave up for others. Every one of us needs to visit our own personal "refreshment area" from time to time. It's that "me" time we so often mistake for selfishness. It's not selfishness at all when we are gaining energy for the next time we give to others.
What is your "refreshment area"? Is it as simple as a walk in the woods? Perhaps it's a card game with your spouse. Or maybe it's an afternoon nap. Whatever works for you, be sure to understand the depletion of energy and the need for replenishment in the work of helping people.
Visit your "refreshment area" and you'll be Serving Strong!
