Facebook has a very large group called "Six Degrees of Separation. The theory contained on the page of that group explains the theory this way:
"There are an estimated 6.667 Billion people who live on this planet. The Theory states that any 2 people can be directly connected to each other through no more then 6 people. It sounds crazy i know...But when you think about the number of people the average person comes in contact with in their lifetime-- it doesn't seem so strange."
I would like to propose another perspective. It deals with our relationship with God. I call it the "Six Degrees of NON-Separation". As we travel our journey we are surrounded by God's presence, if we are willing to notice Him in this way.
Here's how the Six Degrees looks:
Above. God is over us in all aspects of life. This not to scare us. It's to give us comfort knowing He sees the big picture 100% of the time every day.
Beneath. God is our support. He is our foundation. His unconditional love and acceptance of us is the basis upon which we serve Him, rather than serving Him out of duty of fear that His love for us must be somehow earned.
Beside (left). He walks beside us as our companion. He listens to us and our needs. We talk to Him and give Him all our good, bad, and ugly thoughts and feelings.
Beside (right). He walks beside us as our source of wisdom and correction. He talks to us and helps us see the error in our thinking. He tells us when we are about to enter a dangerous situation. He corrects us. He lovingly rebukes us, as a loving Father to a child.
Ahead. He goes ahead of us and knows what we will face in the day. He prepares the hearts of those with whom we will come in contact.
Behind. He follows behind, giving us confirmation of our worth in Him. He teaches us after the good or bad decisions we make. He never gives up on us.
Is God surrounding you? Do you have six degrees of non-separation with Him? I'm finding it the best way to run the race I've been given. Not only am I renewed as a result, I have a much greater chance of growing, maturing and being a fruitful servant. Those who Serve Strong have this sort of surround-sound relationship with God.
