The American society supports and encourages instant gratification. We have drive thru's for dry cleaning, Starbuck's iced mochas, french fries, beverages... and today, I went to a drive thru to have the battery in my watch replaced! No kidding (check out the picture of the place on this post). I drove up, gave the lady my watch, and inside of 4 minutes my watch was ready and I was on my way.
But with all this instant gratification, we are in danger of being lulled to sleep, believing our life balance, self care, personal & professional development can be handled just as quickly.
Imagine it: Wouldn't it be cool if we could drive up to a window, order a large life balance with some self-care, a side of life coaching, and a sweet tea (light ice) - then drive off refreshed and renewed?
Sorry. No such thing. Taking care of our vessel takes persistence, patience, and time. If you are going to stay strong in your calling to help other people, you cannot ignore your vessel. So the next time you're tempted to hurry up your development and care, think again. Set yourself up for the long view and you won't be disappointed.
Assume the role of a life-long learner and you'll be Serving Strong!
