SONAR -- "SOund, NAvigation, and Ranging."
It was used as a means of tracking enemy submarines during World War II. It works when an electrical impulse from a transmitter is converted into a sound wave by a transducer and sent into the water. When this wave strikes an object, it rebounds. This echo strike the tranducer, which converts it back into an electrical signal, which is amplified by a receiver and sent to a display.
This happens many times per second. Therefore, a continuous line is drawn across the display, showing the bottom signal. Also, echoes returned from any object int he water between the surface and bottom are also displayed. Based on this technology, the sonar unit can show the depth fo the water and any fish in the water.
How's YOUR "sonar"?
We are each in pursuit of a dream. If you are one of the few who have identified that dream and know for certain what God has called you to do, you are fortunate. You and I are equipped with a mechanism to help us know how closely we are travelling toward that dream/calling. It involves the assistance of others people. Ever heard someone say, "I'd just like to bounce this off you for a moment" ? They are using their sonar. They are trying to find that little, red dot on the map that says, "You Are Here."
We each need to exercise our sonar. We cannot serve others and go it alone. We need to pull back periodically and bounce a few thoughts and ideas off a trusted friend or coach. This is extremely helpful. Without using our sonar, we run the risk of being WAY off our mark and not even know it.
Develop your sonar. Use it on a regular basis and you'll be Serving Strong!
Thanks Scott for sharing this great book. I've had the privilege of reading Prayer Power and can honestly say it has changed my life and prayer life as well.
