I'm sitting on the deck right now as I type this blog post. It's 10:30 in the morning. It's getting really hot. The sun is burning and the humidity is high. I seem to be moving more and more slowly. Sweat has just arrived.
FEMA shares some preventative things to do BEFORE the heat arrives. Here are a few:
Install window air conditioners snugly; insulate if necessary.
Check air-conditioning ducts for proper insulation.
Install temporary window reflectors (for use between windows and drapes), such as aluminum foil-covered cardboard, to reflect heat back outside.
Heat is not just a weather term. When we work with people we experience moments when the "heat" is turned up: interpersonal conflict, misunderstandings, major loss, and even great exciting events. These are the things that reduce our energy level. We must take care of ourselves when we face these moments. If we don't, we run the risk of burning out.
Here are a couple ideas for taking care of yourself BEFORE the heat arrives:
Stay in God's Word.
Develop & maintain a regular exercise routine (seeing a doctor first, if necessary).
Remember to laugh at your self from time to time (give yourself grace).
Taking necessary steps prior to seasons of heat will help you Serve Strong!
