When you're in the people-helping profession, you are more than just a people helper. Many of you are also a spouse, household financial manger, sibling, adult child of an aging parent, and parent (to name just a few hats!)
If you've had children or adopted them, or even agreed to be a surrogate parent to an orphan, you owe it to yourself and your child to be the best parent you can be. Raising kids isn't easy but it's rewarding. It's the toughest job you'll ever love. Once a parent, always a parent.
I want to resource you along the lines of raising kids. To that end, I've requested resources from some of my Twitter followers and others. Here is just a sampling of what you can review. My objective is to encourage you to do a little research into the role of parenting. Stop leaving everything to chance.
Ministry To Children of the ME Generation
One idea: Paint a picture of a future date of your child's first day at college. They are all moved into their dorm room. You've said your goodbyes. You are driving away. Ask yourself: WHAT 3 QUALITIES DO I WANT MY CHILD TO HAVE INSTILLED IN THEM THAT WILL GUIDE THEIR DECISIONS WHILE THEY ARE AWAY FROM HOME? Then guide your daily interactions according to that vision.
