Worked out in the yard today. Everything was moving along as planned. That is, until I tried to mow over a tree root. Apparently, the root has added some weight since last I mowed over it. When I did, the mower stopped, engine and all.
The result: A blade tip bent at almost 45 degrees. Needless to say, I was off to Sears to make a purchase for a new blade (good news! Now I don't have to sharpen it!) My lesson: don't expect a simple mower blade to cut through wood.
When you work in the people helping profession, how often do you try to do something for which you were not designed? Perhaps you are an extrovert trying to spend hours behind a computer screen working on spreadsheets. Or maybe you're an introvert trying to be the perpetual greeter at your church.
We have gifts, passions, skill sets, and experiences for a reason. God intends to use all of these for His purpose. Except for the occasional season when God asks us to do something that makes absolutely no sense (remember He chose Moses, of all people, to lead His people out of Israel), God has wired you to be used for great things.
So don't try to be someone you're not. And for heaven's sake, don't try to mow a tree root!
