I was eating dinner with a couple friends the other night. Part of our discussion centered around what sacred space is. Does it mean the area surrounding a seat in a pew at a church? Is it in a living room?
I know a man who gave up his ambitions and started following Christ while at a picnic table at a rest area. He now serves as a pastor.
I know another man who was moved to tears as he envisioned what heaven was like while listening to a blues song through his earbuds as he neared the end of a long run on a treadmill at a local YMCA.
People are finding God in all sorts of strange places. What I think is common among all the spaces, as diverse as they are, is an attitude of brokenness. I tend to believe that it is not about the perfect acoustics or spatial area that makes the difference (although I believe attention should be given to those in order to remove barriers.) It's more about the sense of "coming to one's end" that matters.
Are you broken? Are you at the end of yourself? It's really no end at all. It's actually the beginning. What do you suppose lies beyond your "end"; your brokenness? Dare to find out?
Coming to the end of ourselves is the first step to Serving Strong!
