What happens when we say yes? We say no... to something else, of course. Why?
Because we live in a finite world with finite time, energy, and resources. Don't agree? Try running on the treadmill for 24 hours straight and then go to work. We are finite. We need a work / rest rhythm. We were built for balance.
So when we say "yes" to one thing, we have to make time for it. Making time means saying "no." Here's an example:
I recently started the Facebook group, "365 CLUB" as a result of a kindness documented by my friend, Dave Ferguson. Little did I realize it would grow to over 7,800 members worldwide in 13 days! This is certainly a God thing. Be that as it may, it takes my time. I must keep in mind the other ingredients that make up my life (my relationship with God, my marriage, my parenthood, my coaching, my job, etc.) If I'm not careful, this exciting new FB group will eat into my other ingredients, causing my imbalance.
So the next time you are presented with an opportunity, consider the upsides, downsides, and overall impact if you said "yes" or if you said "no." This is Serving Strong!
By the way, I wouldn't trade anything for being used by God to start "365 CLUB." It's a thrill and delight to see how powerful He is. I just need to be careful about its impact on my life balance. What thrilling things are you a part of? How are you keeping your balance in the midst of it all?
