It was weird. We were all together during family night (my family, Mom & Dad, brothers and their families, my sister and her family all get together every Monday night for dinner - whoever can come is there). We were sitting at the table and one of the kids mentioned this ring tone that can only be heard by people under age 30 or so. We didn't believe her.
So she pulled out her cellphone. She went to her ring tones and started the ring. Sure enough, all the other school-aged kids claimed they could hear it. None of the adults could. It was a trick, right? So one of the adults took the phone. They started and stopped the ring tone without telling the kids when they were doing it. Each time the adult started the ring tone, the kids said, "there it is." When the adult stopped the ring tone, the kids said, "it stopped."
But none of the adults around the table could hear it. In fact, I put it right up to my ear and couldn't hear it. The kids couldn't believe I couldn't hear it when it was right up against my ear.
Now, that was weird. I felt old. Perhaps some part of the ear develops (or deteriorates) as we age, making us incapable of hearing certain sounds. Of course, kids can have all kinds of fun with this in school, I understand.
Doesn't this make you think of what Jesus said about being like little children who believe in Him with abandon? As we age, we are in danger of losing our wonder of who God is and what He's capable of doing.
Don't age as you get older. Stay like a child. Stay close to God. Learn to be like a child and retain the wonder of who He is and what He can do through you. This is a great way to continue Serving Strong!
