Here are 2 pictures from our family lunch last Sunday. My son was not occupied with sports or friends. My daughter was home from college for the Thanksgiving break. My wife and I were also home. It seems that the older the kids get, the rarer these family meal times get.
The first picture is the table set before we ate. Meatloaf with bread on it, mashed potatoes, green beans... yum! The second picture is after we had eaten and started to clear the table.
Why am I showing you this? Because I want to remind each of us (me included) that if we are preoccupied with things coming up in our future, we'll be that much less present in the present. We may miss what's going on in the right now of life. We may miss a divine appoint we weren't ready for. We may miss cherished times with friends and family.
Distractions and future events have a way of robbing us of our present moments. But they only do so if we grant permission. We do have a choice.
Especially as we embark on the 2008 holiday season, I encourage you to choose, for the most part, your present moments. Reserve future thinking to a prescribed block of time every once in a while (perhaps to your "weekly review" where you review past progress and plan out immediate and long range goals.)
Be present in the present and you'll be Serving Strong!
