Today is election day in the United States of America. Today thousands of people will be doing their civic duty to cast one vote. That single vote will be added to millions of other single votes to arrive at a conclusion (hopefully).
But there will be thousands of people who will NOT vote today. One of the reasons they won't is the sense that their vote won't matter. "After all," they say, "Enough other people will be out there, right? What good is my little ballot in the grand scheme of things?"
Now before you think this is a political post, let me assure you - it's not.
This post is about how we, as people helpers, see ourselves. Many think of themselves just like the nonvoter who thinks their vote won't matter in the grand scheme of things. They have little self esteem. They struggle with the idea that they are worthy. Perhaps you're reading this and are serving other people out of a sense of guilt and shame - that you have to help others to make up for the terrible person you are.
But we were already loved LONG before we even knew it. God has initiated such wonderful grace to us already. We sit in grace everyday. We are loved every moment. The trouble is, we don't recognize it. To help you, I suggest a book: The Ragamuffin Gospel
If you are serving people out of a sense of duty, I urge you to stop; think; reflect. Begin a fresh journey of understanding what God's grace means to you. Then serve out of the resulting gratitude and freedom grace gives. You DO have a vote because you were bought with a price you could not pay. With this awareness, there is no better way to Serve Strong!
