Your family will most likely go through difficult transitions. This creates a problem with schedules of those in the family. This takes its toll on children. Marji Peterson (marriage and family therapist intern, REACH Adoption Social Worker with Aspiranet) points out that,
"Transitions can be difficult for children in general, and particularly difficult for children who have experienced the loss of a primary caretaker through divorce, illness, or death, or placement in foster care due to maltreatment."
Family tension increases during these times. Peterson shares some tips for parents during periods of transition. Here are a few:
- Plan nurturing activities
- Share the joy with your children
- Talk to your child
- Build self-care into your life as a parent.
