Derek Semmler, in an article on E-momsAtHome/Dad_Balance, discusses 5 technologies that can hurt our work-life balance. They are...
- Cellphone
- Blackberry, etc.
- Laptop
- Instant Messaging
Read the entire article for more. Semmler goes into more detail that's helpful.
I don't think the answer is to become disconnected and throw all of these devices away. But blindly using them without having clear, specific boundaries to protect the other needed aspects of your life (such as sleep, down time, one-on-one time with your kids, etc.) is very unhealthy.
Hats off to Derek Semmler for highlighting this aspect of technology!

Thanks for mentioning my post about how technology may hurt your work life balance. As I mentioned in the article, these very technologies are the primary reason that I am able to have the flexibility that I do.
However, technology can consume you as well and result in you spending even more time working.
Thanks again!
