"The journey to truly superior performance is neither for the faint of heart nor for the impatient. The development of genuine expertise requires struggle, sacrifice, and honest, often painful self-assessment. There are no shortcuts. It will take you at least a decade to achieve expertise, and you will need to invest that time wisely, by engaging in “deliberate” practice—practice that focuses on tasks beyond your current level of competence and comfort."
This is a quote from a Harvard Business Review article. It can also be applied to any efforts we are making to create a lifestyle of balance and self care as we pursue our calling to help people. In this context, the quote could be re-written as follows:
"The journey to a truly superior lifestyle of balance and self care is neither for the faint of heart nor for the impatient. This process requires struggle, sacrifice, and honest, often painful self-assessment. There are no shortcuts. It will take you at least a decade to achieve your rhythm, and you will need to invest that time wisely, by engaging in “deliberate” practice—practice that focuses on tasks beyond your current level of competence and comfort."
Serving strong over the length of a calling doesn't come by accident. One cannot assume that just because they are engaged in the business of helping people that they will automatically be taken care of personally. It requires an intentional, deliberate approach to protect the financial, spiritual, emotional, mental, relational, and physical aspects of our personal life.
What steps are YOU taking to ensure a truly superior lifestyle of balance and self care?
