Sheryl Crow has recently been quoted in the news as suggesting that we each use just one square of toilet tissue when finished with our business in the bathroom. I understand her suggestion was to help, in a small way, save the green earth.
This post isn't to debate the nature of a green earth or global warming. But doesn't it seem a bit odd to go to those lengths to save a planet that is as large as ours? More importantly, what about our tendency to react to being out of balance with knee jerk reactions?
For example, let's say you have been working hard in your ministry and coming home late several evenings in a row. Your young daughter remarks that you aren't home to read any books to her. In that scenario, if you were to suddenly take a 6 month sabbatical from your work to read your daughter stories all day, your ministry would now suffer.
That's a very simple example. I know real life isn't always that easy. But the point remains - in our serving, life balance leads to deep impact. In our attempts at serving in balance, it may be best not to upset more than is necessary to cover all the bases God directs us to cover.
Food for thought.
